Two dead in Barx-Gandia road smash
An horrific smash on the Gandia-Barx road left two pensioners dead and a whole family injured, traffic police reported on Friday morning.
The force of the impact was so great that the dead couple's Ford Fiesta was flung skywards and landed on a nearby garden wall.
It was found straddling the dry-stone structure and so badly crushed that the bodies were trapped between panels.
Emergency services were called out at around 20.15 the night before to the CV-675, which links Barx de la Valldigna with the up-market Marxuquera urbanisation after two cars collided headon.
Three women aged 30, 37 and 70 and a three-year-old girl travelling in a Rénault Espace were taken to hospital with multiple cuts and bruises.
Paramedics at the scene confirmed that the couple who had to be cut free from the Fiesta, a 74-year-old woman and a man aged 76, had been killed instantly.
Just hours later, at noon on Friday, a woman aged 74 had to be cut free from the wreckage of her car after she veered off the CV-50 in the neighbouring town of Tavernes de la Valldigna in a single-vehicle accident, police reveal.
