Bus frequency to be upped during Plaza de la Reina works
By Shelley Liddell VALENCIA'S municipal bus company, EMT, will be launching shuttles every five minutes from the interior ring road to the town's historic centre, namely Plaza de la Reina and Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
To this end, EMT will use the interchanges of Tetuán, Porta de la Mar and Torres de Quart as bases for these rapid bus lines to transport passengers to the heart of the city.
These direct buses will come into service in April 2018. This date coincides with the start of work to remodel Plaza de la Reina during which the end of Calle de la Paz and the start of Calle San Vicente will be closed to traffic for the duration of the remodelling.
Councillor Giueseppe Grezzi, sees these road closures as an opportunity to pedestria- nise part of Plaza Ayuntamiento, although he has yet to agree the final details with his fellow council members.
Although he did give a clue to the changes public transport would undergo.
"The works of the Plaza de la Reina will affect the whole area, since we want to provide better public service, we are already working on the solutions for when the work begin, now there are too many bus lines to the centre."
EMT aim to reduce the lines that travelling to the centre, and use the fast shuttles instead so users don't have to wait more than five minutes.
Low pollution, electric and hybrid buses will be used for the shuttle service.
EMT will prepare an important information campaign for any busline changes.
