Teulada and Benitachell water guarantee
By Jo Pugh THE TEULADA and Benitachell water consortium has taken a huge step towards guaranteeing supply to both towns for the next ten years.
Late last week, works commenced to expand the capacity of the desalination plants to accommodate an extra 8,800 cubic metres of water.
The desalination plant located in Teulada Moraira will increase capacity by 6,000 cubic metres, from 5,000 to 11,000. The plant in Benitachell will rise from 3,000 cubic metres to 5,800.
“With these important investments we can guarantee future water in both towns, which exceeds our first expectations.
"Even so, residents must be aware that every drop matters. That is why we continue to launch awareness campaigns that, without a doubt have also contributed, together with the actions and improvement works, to the effective and rapid response that the consor- tium has given us in record time since the 2016 drought.” said the mayors of Teulada and Benitachell, Carlos Linares and Josep Femenia, in a joint statement.
In addition, the consortium will double the capacity of the ‘Senija II’ well and the ‘Canor I’ and will incorporate the ‘Les Fonts’ well to the supply, to further increase the flows.
Other improvement works that will be undertaken will be the installation of new equipment at the Canor well, the Les Fonts pipeline, the expansion of Benitachell 1 and the pipelines which conduct water to the Benitachell desalination plant.
The works will cost around €4 million.
