VALENCIA'S industrial beacon, the Ford vehicle manufacturing plant in Almus- safes will also be targeted by staff cutbacks, company officials have announced this week.

Company spokespeople admitted that the Valencia plant is working better than others, but that there will have to be some layoffs all the same following a drop in sales across all models.

Conversations are currently taking place between company managers and union leaders to clarify exactly how much the spending needs to be cut. However, with the company failing to meet previous agreements reached between both sides after issuing overly optimistic predictions, the end result may be more of a tweak here and there than massive layoffs. The fact that the Valencia plant produces the hybrid model is one of its saving graces, but notable drops specially in the sales of diesel cars are still having a negative impact
