Ciudad BBVA, Las Tablas, Madrid
The design by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron fully encapsulates the values that BBVA wanted to convey via its new headquarters in Madrid —efficiency, sustainability, innovation and commitment to its employees. Already an iconic part of the Spanish capital’s skyline, the new head offices hold ISO 14001 certification and were built to LEED Gold sustainability criteria, one of the strictest standards for sustainable building. As soon as construction of its new head office got under way, BBVA made the most of the opportunity to update the way the bank works and bring it into line with the group’s corporate culture. Ciudad BBVA is not just an office complex, but a space created to put the new paradigms into practice. Its design is intended to encourage formal and informal interaction between employees, driving knowledge-sharing throughout the organisation by providing open spaces that discourage isolation and accelerate decision-making.
