The de­sign by Swiss ar­chi­tects Her­zog & de Meu­ron fully en­cap­su­la­tes the va­lues that BBVA wan­ted to con­vey via its new head­quar­ters in Ma­drid —ef­fi­ciency, sus­tai­na­bi­lity, in­no­va­tion and com­mit­ment to its em­plo­yees. Al­ready an ico­nic part of the Spa­nish ca­pi­tal’s sky­li­ne, the new head of­fi­ces hold ISO 14001 cer­ti­fi­ca­tion and we­re built to LEED Gold sus­tai­na­bi­lity cri­te­ria, one of the stric­test stan­dards for sus­tai­na­ble buil­ding. As soon as cons­truc­tion of its new head of­fi­ce got un­der way, BBVA ma­de the most of the op­por­tu­nity to up­da­te the way the bank works and bring it in­to li­ne with the group’s cor­po­ra­te cul­tu­re. Ciu­dad BBVA is not just an of­fi­ce com­plex, but a spa­ce crea­ted to put the new pa­ra­digms in­to prac­ti­ce. Its de­sign is in­ten­ded to en­cou­ra­ge for­mal and in­for­mal in­ter­ac­tion bet­ween em­plo­yees, dri­ving know­led­ge-sha­ring th­roug­hout the or­ga­ni­sa­tion by pro­vi­ding open spa­ces that dis­cou­ra­ge iso­la­tion and ac­ce­le­ra­te de­ci­sion-ma­king.
