HIGH COURT GRANTS BAIL TO FOR­MER OIC

The Colombo High Court yes­ter­day granted bail to for­mer Nara­hen­pita Crimes OIC Sumith Champika Per­era who was on re­mand al­legedly for cov­er­ing up ev­i­dence in the Wasim Tha­judeen mur­der case.

He was granted bail of Rs 100,000 in cash sub­ject to three sureties of Rs, one mil­lion on each of the three sureties.

The judge or­dered that one of the sureties who stood surety for the sus­pect should be a close rel­a­tive of the sus­pect.

He was fur­ther or­dered to be present be­fore the CID on the last Sun­day of ev­ery month.

His pass­port was im­pounded and he was warned by the Judge to ab­stain from in­ter­fer­ing with the pros­e­cu­tion wit­nesses or with the in­ves­ti­ga­tions. Colombo Ad­di­tional Mag­is­trate Nis­han­tha Pieris ear­lier re­manded the sus­pect dur­ing the Mag­is­trate Court in­quiry for sup­press­ing ev­i­dence of the killing of for­mer rug­gerite Tha­judeen..
