The prosecution earlier named another suspect, Shirantha Sanjeewa Waidyathilaka the Chief Financial Manager of the SLTB during the period in question, as the third suspect in the case.

The CID informed court that the third suspect currently resides abroad and was absconding and said appropriate steps would be taken to apprehend him with the assistance of the Interpol.

According to the prosecution the first suspect, Nandana Priyantha was awarded several tenders in 2010 and 2012 respectively to supply spare parts to the SLTB. However, he had allegedly not supplied spare parts for which he had requested advance payments to be made to him by the SLTB. The CID alleged that the first suspect had submitted forged documents on three separate occasions before requesting SLTB officials to settle these amounts which he claimed it owed him.

The prosecution said the second suspect, Shashi Welgama, as the then chairman of the SLTB, had fraudulently signed off on the forged invoices provided by the supplier to the Finance Department of the SLTB for payment.

The CID arrested the suspects on charges under the Penal Code and the Public Property Act over criminal misappropriation, breach of trust and the misuse of state funds.
