Indices close in green
Indices closed in green as a result of price gains in counters such as Hatton National Bank, Sampath Bank and Lanka Orix Leasing Company. The turnover crossed Rs 1.9 Bn for the day. Crossings were witnessed in Sampath Bank, National Development Bank, John Keells Holdings and Access Engineering. Mixed interest was observed in Hatton National Bank and Janashakthi Insurance Company whilst retail interest was noted in Lankem Developments. Meanwhile, foreigners closed as net sellers mainly due to foreign selling in Sampath Bank and National Development Bank.
Banks, Finance and Insurance sector was the top contributor to the market turnover (due to Sampath Bank and National Development Bank) whilst the sector index gained 1.71%. The share price of Sampath Bank increased by Rs 11.60 (3.43%) closing at Rs 349.90 whilst foreign holdings decreased by 385,249 shares. The share price of National Development Bank gained Rs 0.80 (0.61%) closing at Rs 132.80 whilst foreign holdings decreased by 1,624,736 shares.
Diversified sector was the second highest contributor to the market turnover (due to John Keells Holdings) whilst the sector index decreased by 0.24%. The share price of John Keells Holdings moved down by Rs 1.50 (0.91%) to close at Rs 163.00.
Ceylon Cold Stores and Access Engineering were also included amongst the top turnover contributors. The share price of Ceylon Cold Stores recorded a gain of Rs 16.90 (1.92%) to close at Rs 897.30. The share price of Access Engineering increased by Rs 0.10 (0.39%) to close at Rs 25.90.
Furthermore, Union Chemicals Lanka announced an interim dividend of Rs 7.00 per share.
