Indices close in green

Indices closed in green as a re­sult of price gains in coun­ters such as Hat­ton National Bank, Sam­path Bank and Lanka Orix Leas­ing Com­pany. The turnover crossed Rs 1.9 Bn for the day. Cross­ings were wit­nessed in Sam­path Bank, National Devel­op­ment Bank, John Keells Hold­ings and Ac­cess En­gi­neer­ing. Mixed in­ter­est was ob­served in Hat­ton National Bank and Janashak­thi In­sur­ance Com­pany whilst re­tail in­ter­est was noted in Lankem De­vel­op­ments. Mean­while, for­eign­ers closed as net sell­ers mainly due to for­eign sell­ing in Sam­path Bank and National Devel­op­ment Bank.

Banks, Fi­nance and In­sur­ance sec­tor was the top con­trib­u­tor to the market turnover (due to Sam­path Bank and National Devel­op­ment Bank) whilst the sec­tor in­dex gained 1.71%. The share price of Sam­path Bank in­creased by Rs 11.60 (3.43%) clos­ing at Rs 349.90 whilst for­eign hold­ings de­creased by 385,249 shares. The share price of National Devel­op­ment Bank gained Rs 0.80 (0.61%) clos­ing at Rs 132.80 whilst for­eign hold­ings de­creased by 1,624,736 shares.

Di­ver­si­fied sec­tor was the sec­ond high­est con­trib­u­tor to the market turnover (due to John Keells Hold­ings) whilst the sec­tor in­dex de­creased by 0.24%. The share price of John Keells Hold­ings moved down by Rs 1.50 (0.91%) to close at Rs 163.00.

Cey­lon Cold Stores and Ac­cess En­gi­neer­ing were also in­cluded amongst the top turnover con­trib­u­tors. The share price of Cey­lon Cold Stores recorded a gain of Rs 16.90 (1.92%) to close at Rs 897.30. The share price of Ac­cess En­gi­neer­ing in­creased by Rs 0.10 (0.39%) to close at Rs 25.90.

Fur­ther­more, Union Chem­i­cals Lanka an­nounced an in­terim div­i­dend of Rs 7.00 per share.
