Prime Minister meets Defense Minister of Finland
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe met the Finland’s Minister of Defense Yussi Ninisto at the Defense Ministry office in Helsinki Tuesday morning..
They discussed how to improve the cooperation between security forces in both countries.
It was highlighted that peaceful and free movement of ships in the Indian Ocean is strategically important to Sri Lanka, as well as the peaceful environment of the Baltic sea will bring stability to Finland. They also discussed on strategies to be adopted by Zonal leaders in securing stability and the foundation of peace.

As Sri Lanka and Finland are military wise independent nations, special attention was also drawn on strategies to be adopted in times of internal and external threats.
Views were also expressed by the Finnish Ambassador for South Asia Rauli Suikkanen, special consultant for the Ministry of Defense Dr Juha Martelius, Military Consultant of the Ministry of Defense Colonel Patteri Jouko at the discussions.
Secretary to the Prime Minister Saman Ekanayake, Sri Lankan Ambassador to Finland Jayantha Palipane, additional secretary to the Prime Minister Saman Athaudahetti, Consul General for Finland in Sri Lanka Asroff Omar, and special assistant to the Prime Minister Sandra Perera were present at this event.
