MIRISWATTE - WATHURUGAMA road renovation at standstill

Renovation work of the Miriswatte - Wathurugama road has come to a standstill and its development work had started 7 years ago. The supervision of the development works of this road was carried out by Gampaha District Executive Engineering office of Road development Authority.

The people living in many areas ask from the authorities as to why the Miriswatta – Wathurugama road stretch (205) still remains unfinished.

The reason for questioning by the people is that a length of about 5 km. of this road has not been completed on the first stage of the development up to Buthpitiya that had been initiated by the previous government to develop the road by broadening the road to 50 ft. up to 10 km.distance.

The way side land had been taken over so that the road could be broadened up to 50 ft. and later arrangements had been made to broaden it up to 21 ft. Therefore, the pedestrians are in difficulty due to non-removal of electric posts and telephone posts up to the new road limit and the works underway. In spite of the fact that the media had created awareness among the authorities on many occasions, their response was that the information should be obtained through proper channels under the Right to Information Act.

The people in these areas have blamed the people’s representatives due to this inordinate delay and the reason for such a delay is the stopage of work by the contractors.

It has been brought to the notice of United National Party Organizer (UNP) Prishantha Jayakody to query about the delay in the completion of the development works at the next District Coordinating Committee.
