BOI hosts sem­i­nar on ‘Hub Op­er­a­tions’

The Board of In­vest­ment of Sri Lanka con­ducted a spe­cial sem­i­nar ti­tled ‘Hub Op­er­a­tions ; fu­ture op­por­tu­ni­ties for In­vest­ment in Sri Lanka’ this week at the BOI Au­di­to­rium, Colombo.

The sem­i­nar was aimed at the ex­port-ori­ented en­ter­prises that are ser­viced by the BOI Head Of­fice. The pur­pose of this sem­i­nar was to brief all stake­hold­ers and en­hance their knowl­edge in an ex­pand­ing eco­nomic sec­tor which has con­sid­er­able im­por­tance for an Is­land na­tion such as Sri Lanka, strate­gi­cally lo­cated at the cross­roads of the In­dian Ocean re­gion. The in­au­gu­ra­tion speech was made by Du­minda Ariyainghe, Direc­tor Gen­eral of BOI. Sev­eral pre­sen­ta­tions were made on the im­por­tance of com­mer­cial hub in Sri Lanka by both BOI and rep­re­sen­ta­tives from the En­ter­prises which are be­ing en­gaged in hub op­er­a­tions.

Sean Van­dott, Direc­tor Lo­gis­tics Global Ship­pers Fo­rum, Mahinda Ra­manayake, Ex­ec­u­tive Direc­tor, In­vestor Ser­vices, BOI, Amal Ro­drigo, Direc­tor Hay­leys Free Zone and Pan­dula De Silva, Se­nior Man­ager EDGC made the pre­sen­ta­tions. This sem­i­nar re­flects the grow­ing im­por­tance of Hub Op­er­a­tions in Sri Lanka in par­tic­u­lar, and in the Asian re­gion as a whole. This ex­pan­sion is fu­elled by Sri Lanka’s im­por­tance as a cen­tre for trade, tourism and in­vest­ment in South Asia, with con­nec­tions to East Asia, Aus­trala­sia, the Mid­dle East, Africa and Europe. A to­tal num­ber of 130 par­tic­i­pants at­tended the sem­i­nar fol­lowed by a ques­tion and an­swer ses­sion.
