STF raid il­le­gal tim­ber store on doorstep of Gam­pola Po­lice

A large stock of teak and ma­hogany tim­ber was seized and a sus­pect taken into cus­tody by the STF dur­ing a raid on an il­le­gal tim­ber store at Paliyawatta in Gam­pola. In­ves­ti­ga­tions re­vealed that tim­ber had been trans­ported to the area by tip­per lor­ries hid­den un­der loads of sand.

A se­nior STF of­fi­cial said the rack­e­teers had been run­ning the il­le­gal tim­ber store in close prox­im­ity to the Gam­pola po­lice and the courts com­plex.

Com­mand­ing Of­fi­cer of the Gam­pola STF camp IP B.j.gemunu Shan­tha SI Jayaweera, SI Ranatunga Bandara, PCS 15252 Perea, 69211 Asoka and 7641 Bandara caried out the raid on the in­struc­tions of Kandy Zonal Com­man­der A.A.G Rana­suriya.
