Retired Land Registry official suspect in forged deeds case
A retired official of the Anuradhapura Land Registry and an office peon of the District Secretariat were arrested by Anuradhapura Police on suspicion of effecting the possession of land on forged deeds during a raid on a house in Anuradhapura town.
The 74- year- old retired official of the land branch of the District Secretariat was the owner of the house.
They were arrested during an investigation into a complaint made by the District Registrar and several others that deeds in the Land Registry had been forged by an organised group. Police carried out the raid on a search warrant issued by the Anuradhapura magistrate. Investigations revealed that pages had been detached from the registration books and replaced after making alterations.
OIC Crime Investigation Branch SI Sarath Ananada, Sergeants 28994 Weeraratne, 29875 Ranweera, PCS 6261 Chandika, 54774 Dissanayake, 33292 Kumaranayaka and 34675 Perera conducted investigations on the instructions of ASP Chulani Weerartne , SP Thilina Hewavitharana and DIG Prathap Senerath.
