Bomb hoax in Negombo school

Daily Mirror (Sri Lanka) - - NEWS - BY PRASAD MUTHUKUDA

Students of a girls school in Negombo were evacuated yesterday for a few hours after an anonymous caller had told the school’s telephone operator that a bomb had been planted somewhere in the school.

All 3,000 students were evacuated from the school buildings within 20 minutes after the telephone call, sources said.

Immediately the Air Force, Bomb Disposal Unit of the Army, police and intelligence authorities were informed about the telephone call but they could not find anything suspicious within the school premises.

A ceremony was to be held in the school yesterday and police suspect that somebody who wanted to sabotage the event had given the call.

However, later the event was held as scheduled.

Negombo police are conducting investigations apart from the investigation ordered by the Zonal Education Director.
