Basil’s Mal­wana land case post­poned to Nov. 14

The case against former Min­is­ter Basil Ra­japaksa and Thiruku­maran Nade­san over the al­leged mis­ap­pro­pri­a­tion of state funds by pur­chas­ing a 16-acre land in Mapit­igama, Mal­wana in Dompe and build­ing a man­sion with a swimming pool on that land was post­poned for Novem­ber 14 by Gam­paha High Court judge Ni­mal Ranaweera yes­ter­day.

When the case was called At­tor­ney Navin Mara­pana re­quested the judge to as­sign an­other day for the case as both the Pres­i­dent’s coun­sel ap­pear­ing for the de­fen­dants had at­tended the func­tion to fe­lic­i­tate out­go­ing Chief Jus­tice Priyasad Dep.

Ac­cord­ingly the judge post­poned the case and in­formed Deputy So­lic­i­tor Gen­eral Thusith Mu­dalige and the de­fence coun­sel to reach a con­sen­sus on the day for the next hear­ing.
