Ac­cused sen­tenced to death 19 years af­ter killing boy

Nine­teen years af­ter the in­ci­dent took place an ac­cused, who stood in­dicted of the mur­der of a 14-yearold school­boy, was found guilty and sen­tenced to death by Gam­paha High Court Judge Priyan­tha Fer­nando yes­ter­day.

The ac­cused Ke­galla De­vage Karunaratne (59) of Nika­hetikanda in Nit­tam­buwa, a father of five, had on July 31, 1996 stabbed to death a school­boy of the area, A.D. Ajith Ro­hana (14). The ac­cused had been 40 years of age at the time of the mur­der.

He was sen­tenced to fur­ther years rig­or­ous im­pris­on­ment and fined Rs.1000 for stab­bing two oth­ers in the process.
