Kalthota hos­pi­tal in Balan­goda to be de­vel­oped

Cen­tral Govt to fund project cost­ing Rs. 70 Mn

Sabaraga­muwa Pro­vin­cial Coun­cil has taken steps to de­velop the Kalthota hos­pi­tal in Balan­goda that pro­vides treat­ment to about 500 pa­tients a day.the project cost­ing Rs.70 mil­lion is funded by the cen­tral govern­ment.

A ward com­plex would be de­vel­oped with 50 beds, with im­proved fa­cil­i­ties for in-house pa­tients. Gover­nor Niluka Ekanayake who vis­ited the hos­pi­tal to look into the pre­lim­i­nar­ies of the project said that the va­can­cies of the staff would be filled im­me­di­ately.

Of­fi­cials pointed out that the hos­pi­tal that should have 14 doc­tors, 12 nurs­ing of­fi­cers and 32 mi­nor em­ploy­ees was short of 12 doc­tors, 8 nurs­ing of­fi­cers and 13 mi­nor em­ploy­ees. She said she had al­ready taken up the is­sue with the Min­istry of Health and was hope­ful that the short­age of staff could be re­solved soon.
