Trinity fight back to retain Sir Richard Aluvihare Trophy

-

Trinity scored an ultimately comfortable 47 run win over St. Anthony’s at Asgiriya to retain the Sir Richard Aluvihare Trophy.

For Trinity there, there were many slips ‘twist the cup and the lip, but their opponents could not capitalise on them.

17 for 2 at one stage, Trinity rallied to post 200. Hasitha Boyagoda and Kalana de Zoysa turned the tide with 29 and 24 respectively. Trevon Percival and Banugoban (22 and 33) played valuable supporting roles. But 130 for 7, it was a pulsating 43 ball knock of 49 not out by under 19 pacie Thisaru Dilshan that put the game out of reach for the visitors.

Dilshan struck five sixes, all of them clean hits over long off and long on.

Pacie Virajitha Jayasinghe bowled superbly to bag 3 for25. He had a couple of maidens, too.

In reply, the Anthonians were 23 for2. Skipper Alfer, Dion Stouter and Janidu Himsara all made meaningful contributions.

Sri Lanka Under- 19 player Hasitha Boyagoda made a terrific contribution. He made a neat 29, and then bowled his quota effectively to stall the Anthonians. He was also responsible for a brilliant run out. His commitment for the team was outstanding. At times, he was effectively the captain.

Trinity thus repeated last year’s success. But this was a one sided game.
