Karu Jaya­suriya Chief Guest at com­mem­o­ra­tion event in Bud­dha Gaya

Speaker Karu Jaya­suriya will be Chief Guest at the 153rd birth an­niver­sary com­mem­o­ra­tion of Ana­garika Dharma­pala, the late Sri Lankan Bud­dhist re­vival­ist, at Bud­dha Gaya, In­dia, this af­ter­noon (17), at a func­tion at­tended by the prelates of the tri-Nikayas (Sects).

A large con­tin­gent of Sri Lankan Bud­dhists headed by the Maha Nayaka Theras (Chief Prelates) of the triNikayas (Sects) viz., Ven. Warak­agoda Gna­narathana Maha Thera of the As­giriya Chap­ter, Ven. Na­pana Pe­masiri Maha Nayaka Thera of the Ra­man­nya Chap­ter, Ven. Thiriku­na­male Ananda Maha Nayake Thera of the Amara­pura Chap­ter and the Ven. Niyan­goda Vi­jithasiri Anunayake Thera of the Mal­watta Chap­ter ar­rived in Bud­dha Gaya yes­ter­day (16).

Speaker Jaya­suriya will ar­rive from Lon­don for the func­tion or­ga­nized by the Maha Bodhi So­ci­ety of In­dia.

The Govt of In­dia has ar­ranged for a 17-mem­ber del­e­ga­tion of Sri Lankan me­dia per­son­nel to visit Bud­dha Gaya to co­in­cide with the Dharma­pala com­mem­o­ra­tion event.
