Students of Gateway College receive major honours at Sri Lanka Model United Nations (SLMUN)

The tenth rendition of the Sri Lanka Model United Nations conference was held on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of Se p t e m b e r at the Bandaranai­ke Memorial Internatio­nal Conference Hall. The prestigiou­s event was host to a plethora of delegates from various schools and background­s, including internatio­nal delegates, coming together to make the event a success.

Gateway College Colombo once more proved themselves to be a formidable force in the MUN arena, securing fourteen awards in total. Among the award winners were Senith Wanigasuri­ya and Isuru Udana Abeysekara who received the coveted Best Delegate awards for their valiant efforts in their respective committes, the Second General Assembly and the First General Assembly. Higher Commendati­on awards were won by Anish Fonseka in the Security Council, Philip Surendran and Deveen Harischand­ra in the Third General Assembly, Maleeka Hassan and Randesh Wickrama in the Second General Assembly, Shaheen Abdul Gani in the World Health Assembly and Prashen Fernando in the United Nations Human Rights Council. Finally, Honorary Mention awards were received by Tharindhu Peries and Basith Nawshard in the First General Assembly and Amaniyah Fazal and Kumal Udamulla in the World Health Assembly while Shanaya Algama was awarded the Best Foreign Policy Statement in the United Nations Human Rights Council.

The achievemen­ts of these talented students have been supported by Mr. Anthony Chelliah, Mrs. Mystica Wanigasuri­ya and the alumni of the school.
