Residents complain about delay in water deliveries

-

The delivery of water has come to a halt nationwide because 15 water trucks of the Water Supply Department have broken down. Marlon Oosterling, director at the Surinamese Water Company (SWM), told Times of Suriname that the SWM will fix 15 these 15 water trucks by order of the Ministry of Natural Resources so that they can resume making their deliveries. He pointed out that two contractors have been hired to make the deliveries but that they are working at a slow pace because they have not been paid for about a year.

Oosterling has already contacted Finance Minister Gillmore Hoefdraad to talks about the payment of the two contractors. The 15 water trucks will be back on the job after they have been repaired. Several residents from the Richelieu Project pointed out that they have been without water for nearly two weeks even though they had paid for the water deliveries. A woman who was fed up with the delay in water deliveries on Thursday contacted Times of Suriname to complain about the situation. “Without water, one cannot do anything at home,” said the woman.
