Ra­pe char­ge quas­hed against C.N Shar­ma

The ra­pe char­ge against pro­mi­nent bu­si­ness­man and Talk Show host, Chan­dra Na­ri­ne Shar­ma, has been quas­hed af­ter his ac­cu­ser told the court that she was no lon­ger in­te­rested in pro­ceeding with the mat­ter.

The mat­ter ca­me up be­fo­re Jus­ti­ce Ja­mes Bo­vell Dra­kes at the Ge­or­ge­to­wn Su­pre­me Court, fol­lo­wing the ope­ning of the Oc­to­ber Ses­si­on of the De­me­ra­ra Cri­mi­nal As­si­zes, Tues­day. Shar­ma, the prop­rie­t­or of the CNS Chan­nel Six and Le­a­der of the Jus­ti­ce for All Par­ty was char­ged with ra­ping an un­der­a­ge fe­ma­le, six ye­ars ago. Ac­cor­ding to the char­ge, Shar­ma had car­nal know­led­ge of a child who was se­ven ye­ars old at the ti­me. The child was thirteen ye­ars old when the al­le­ga­ti­ons first surfa­ced. She had clai­med that the bu­si­ness­man sexu­al­ly mo­le­sted her from the age of se­ven with the know­led­ge of her mo­ther and si­blings. The 13-year-old vic­tim in a sworn af­fi­da­vit sig­ned by Jus­ti­ce of the Pea­ce and Com­mis­si­o­ner of Oa­ths to Af­fi­da­vits, Lach­man Na­ri­ne, da­ted April 12, 2010, re­coun­ted a most har­ro­wing ta­le of re­pe­a­ted ra­pe and sexu­al mo­le­sta­ti­on of her four sis­ters over se­ve­r­al ye­ars. The 13-year-old girl al­le­ged that Shar­ma had been sexu­al­ly mo­les­ting her and her sis­ters, with the con­sent of their mo­ther. The girl said the abu­se on­ly stop­ped when she ran away and re­fu­sed to re­turn to her mo­ther’s ho­me. The vic­tim al­so clai­med that she would re­cei­ve $2000 wee­kly from Shar­ma, fol­lo­wing the epi­so­des. The child had al­so said that she was af­raid of Shar­ma. She said that she on­ly de­ci­ded to ma­ke pu­blic her al­le­ga­ti­ons against the ow­ner of CNS TV 6 gi­ven the fact that he had be­gun, ac­cor­ding to her, preying on one of her youn­ger sis­ters.
