Stigesu to receive partial payment
The Foundation for the Handicapped in Suriname (Stigesu) will reportedly a portion of the subsidy. Leny Hardenbol, coordinator at the foundation told Times of Suriname that the paperwork for the provisional subsidy for 2016 has already been approved by the Finance Ministry. She pointed out that she would check the foundation’s bank account to determine if the money has already been transferred and how much the foundation has actually received. The foundation repeatedly indicated that it was in financial trouble and that the government had not transferred subsidy funds for the past two years. Hardenbol explained that the expenses of the outpatients’ center are being covered with the parental contribution. Other expenses such as salaries and taxes deplete huge portions of the foundation’s funds. Due to the delay in payment of subsidy, the foundation had to take several loans in order to remain operational. But the foundation must pay back the loans.
