Times of Suriname - - ENGELS -

“That man shot the victim in the head. I saw everything,” a witness of a shooting incident told Times of Suriname. The witness pointed out that a man opened fire on a man who sells and buys gold in front of the VCB Bank around 14:30 on Thursday. The victim sustained gunshot wounds in his head, belly and foot. “I was in a store. When I came out I saw the perpetrator and the victim arguing with each other. I approached them and told them to stop fighting. But they kept cussing each other. When I was at a short distance I saw the perpetrator pull out a gun and pulling the trigger. I heard three shots. I wanted to prevent the shooting but I did not succeed. I almost got shot too. After the victim had been shot, I went after the shooter with a few other men. The shooter ran towards Ondrobon and jumped in a black car. We had chased the shooter for about 15 minutes but he managed to escape. I do not know why he shot the victim. But it was clear that the two men knew each other well. The victim was always friendly and liked to tell jokes. I know him as a quiet man. I had never seen the shooter before,” said the witness. A woman who was driving along Waterkant when the shooting took place told Times of Suriname that she suddenly heard shots being fired. “It was a big shock to me. I could see many people running away. Shortly afterwards I could see a woman putting a towel around a man’s head. There was a lot of blood. Everybody panicked.” Reports indicate that the victim was rushed to the Emergency Room.
