Fire destroys car
A car that was parked along the Schneider-Howardstraat in Paramaribo caught fire on Saturday.
Fire Department spokesman Olton Pinas told Times of Suriname that a gray car was parked next to a garage. The residents had arrived home in the car about a quarter before the fire started. The son of the woman of the house reportedly saw flames coming from the car and notified his mother and the other housemates. The mother immediately notified the police and brought her 80-year-old father and other housemates to safety. She had taken a few fire safety sessions at work and had therefore purchased two fire extinguishers which she and the other people used to protect the gas cylinders that were located next to the burning car. The woman has car insurance.
Pinas said that the fire destroyed the engine and the two front seats. The heat also destroyed the front window while the back seat has water damage. There are reportedly security cameras on the premises. The investigators will look at the security footage to determine the cause of the fire.
