Cor­po­ral pu­nish­ment at kin­dergar­ten: Te­a­cher ac­cu­sed of hit­ting toddler

The mo­ther of a 4-year-old girl re­cent­ly pres­sed char­ges against a te­a­cher. The wo­man told the po­li­ce that the te­a­cher had hit her daugh­ter’s bottom and arm. The wo­man told the po­li­ce that when she had pick­ed up her daugh­ter from school, the girl told her that the te­a­cher had hit her on her bottom with a ru­ler and that she had cried in the class­room. When the mo­ther heard this, she im­me­di­a­te­ly in­spec­ted her daugh­ter’s bo­dy and saw red marks on her left but­tocks and right up­per arm. Her daugh­ter ma­de it clear that she no lon­ger wan­ted to go to school. The mo­ther told the po­li­ce that she had not gi­ven the te­a­cher per­mis­si­on to hit her daugh­ter. The girl who com­plai­ned about pain at her bottom was re­fer­red to a doc­tor for me­di­cal tre­at­ment. The po­li­ce ha­ve laun­ched an in­ves­ti­ga­ti­on.
