Bouterse to attend funeral service of ‘El Comandante Castro’
President Desi Bouterse left for Cuba on Tuesday morning to attend the funeral service of Fidel Castro which will be held in Havana, capital of Cuba. A press release from the Office of the President indicates that President Bouterse left with 8 other delegates. Several heads of state from various countries will attend the funeral service of ‘EI Comandante Castro’. President will also hold bilateral talks with other heads of state in Havanna. Finance Minister Gillmore Hoefdraad is also a member of the delegation. Meanwhile the embassy of the Republic of Cuba on Monday opened a book of condolences for those who want to pay their respects to the former Cuban president. People can sign the book of condolences at the embassy located at Brokopondolaan 4 this entire week until Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. They can also sign the book on Sunday, December 4 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro died on Friday, November 25 at the age of 90. He was cremated the next day. Cuba has declared nine days of national mourning. Cuba is still being ruled by Castro’s brother, Raul.
