Police intercept 552 kilos of cocaine
The police on Monday afternoon intercepted and seized about 552 kilograms of cocaine that had been put on a boat. The police unit raided the boat with the assistance of national and international security agencies. The police and the Coast Guard reportedly started looking for a ship called Brise. The Brise was reportedly spotted at a jetty in Livorno. Reports indicate that the 49-year-old captain of the ship and 4 crew members are in police custody. The captain told the police that he docked in Suriname because he was having engine trouble. Police officer from the Narcotics Brigade then searched the vessel with the help of firefighters and sniffer dogs. They reportedly found the drugs in places where fuel and other liquids are usually stored. One of the suspects was also in possession of cocaine. The police on November 26 received information which indicated that a foreign boat was being pushed by another boat in Surinamese waters. The 34-year-old captain of the boat that had pushed the suspicious boat was also arrested pending the investigation.
