Claudia A needs emergency aid

-

Legislators on Thursday made it clear to the government that stichting Claudia A is in financial trouble. The foundation did not receive its subsidies and it seems as if it will not receive any state funds any time soon. The government has reportedly demanded that the foundation and other shelters must first tune their administration to the law. There are reportedly new guidelines with regards to financial reports of organizations that receive state subsidy. VP Ashwin Adhin explained to Parliament that Claudia A still has not committed itself to the guidelines which is why the Ministry of Social Affairs still has not transferred the funds. MP Andre Misiekaba (NDP), leader of the coalition faction, who was the first legislator to present the issue in Parliament on Thursday pointed out that shelters must also stick to legal obligations. He nevertheless asked the government to address the urgent situation at the children’s home which provides a home to about 50 children who are living with HIV. Meanwhile members of the community have already pitched in by donating food supplies and money. MP Gregory Rusland (NPS) urged the government to assign experts to Claudia A to help the foundation with its bookkeeping. Huize Albertine is also in a difficult situation due to the lack of funds. MP Silvana Afonsoewa (NDP) pointed out that there is not eneough money to pay the nurses at Huize Albertine. Claudia A also lacks the funds to cover the salaries of the employees.
