Wan Okasi temporarily stops special bus service
Stichting Wan Okasi has temporarily stopped the bus service for people with disabilities.
Aniel Koedjbiharie, chairman of the foundation, explained that the decision was made in response to the growing number of COVID-19 cases in Suriname.
He also explained that the employees of the foundation come into physical contact with the patients everyday. The foundation deemed it necessary to put its service on hold in order to protect this vulnerable group. “The people need transportation to go to the doctor for example but I must protect the passengers and the employees,” said Koendjbiharie who hopes that people with disabilities will be pulled out of their isolation when the COVID-19 pandemic is over. He explained that it would be fun for them to go on field trips.
