Sozavo to speed up COVID-19 compensation

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing (Sozavo) will speed up the payments of COVID-19 compensation. Angela Salmo, director at the Ministry of Social Affairs, explained that more sites or cash registers would be established for the payment of welfare to the people who are unemployed.

The ministry wants to help more people at a fast pace. Director Salmo on Monday announced that the people at the ministry are currently preparing to start this week with the payments in the nation’s districts. The registration of unemployed people along the Gonggrijpstraat was put on hold because people did not stay at a safe distance from each other.

The organization therefore considered the mass registration along the Gonggrijpstraat a big health risk. From now on people can only get their names on the list via the COVID-19 website and via email at covidsoc@gov. sr. Director Salmo made it clear that not everybody who is on the list will be automatically selected. All of the people whose names are on the list are screened first to find out if they are actually unemployed.
