On Friday Foreign Affairs (Buza) Minister Yldiz PollackBeighle on Friday presented the certificate of appointment over to the new honorary consul of Finland, Warsha TorilalSardjoe. TorilalSardjoe succeeds Dilipkoemar Sardjoe who had carried this title since 2012. She also mentioned several areas where both nations can collaborate such as climate change, forestry, trade and tourism. “I feel honored to fill this position for a country such as Finland which has so many innovations that we in Suriname can tap into through various joint ventures. The former honorary consul has done a good job and has laid a broad foundation for making contact and doing business with Finland and I am ready to continue the good work. A foundation was also laid for at least 10 joint ventures with companies and organizations from Finland at the Doing Business with Finland congress that was held in February 2020”, said TorilalSardjoe.
An honorary consul is identified by the bilateral partner and works within the framework of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. Honorary consuls can make an important contribution to the development of joint ventures between countries via for example the implementation of national development goals on economic, scientific, cultural and tourism area.
