Santokhi: “First lady we also pray for you”

“Navratri is characteri­zed by the ancient power that is in women. Sometimes we search far and beyond for the Durga Maa. Sometimes we do not see the Durga Maa although it is close to you,” said President Chandrikap­ersad Santokhi during a visit to the Shri Vishnu Mandir on Tuesday. Vice President Ronnie Brunswijk also attended the Navrati celebratio­n. The Communicat­ion Service Suriname indicated that the head of state has urged the nation to see each woman as the representa­tive of Durga Maa. He also asked the nation to pray extra for women. “First lady we also pray for you,” said the president as he referred to First Lady Mellisa Santokhi-Seenacherr­y. The head of state praised the first lady for working selflessly. “All of this to get a better situation and there will also be a battle to let good defeat evil. Men do not forget that. The Durga Maa is close to you,” said President Santokhi as he made it clear that things sill getter in the country if we keep praying for that.

He repeated his claim that his administra­tion will give the people a better Suriname within 9 months. “We have already been in office for 6 months. We will soon hold an evaluation to keep doing things better,” said President Santokhi who concluded his speech by wishing everybody a Subh Navratri. It is the first in the history of the Sanatan Dharm that a president and a VP visited a mandir together. In his speech VP Brunswijk emphasized the power of prayer.
