Food vendors who sell to pupils from across the road are also exposed to the unfortunate ordeal faced by the learners but are helpless and afraid to intervene because their business is at the mercy of the school community.

Observer on Saturday did not have difficulty in proving firsthand the odious experiences meted by the security personnel.

The first person interviewed by the Observer on Saturday team confirmed knowledge of the story and sounded surprised that the media could take so long to report on it.

One elderly resident of Dvokolwako confirmed the different accounts, claiming she had been getting the said news from her grandchildren.

“I don’t have children at the school but my grandchildren have been telling me about the unbecoming behaviour of the security personnel at the school. Unfortunately we have a school committee that never wants to relinquish their position at the school. When you dare report the issue, you are setting your child against the school as they report you to the administration. I can’t risk hardships to my grandchildren, they will be victimised to an extent of being failed and repeat classes”.

Another woman who was also asked disclosed knowledge of firsthand information said: “I ended up taking my daughter to another school. I couldn’t bare the pain of my daughter being touched by an old man and whose misdeeds are in turn protected by the school.

The school must have a new school committee, maybe issues of the learners will be dealt with, with urgency because this school committee is now looking at their own mandate not that of parents.”

Sibandze confirmed that the committee was now in office illegally.

“We failed to elect a new school committee as our last meeting did not form a quorum. However, we will be electing a new school committee in the coming weeks as we have notified parents of the pending school committee election”.
