Project strik­ing hard on or­phaned chil­dren

The mas­sive project of is­su­ing fi­nan­cial as­sis­tance to the or­phaned and vul­ner­a­ble chil­dren (OVC) through Mo­bile Money plat­form and their needy fam­ily has been ne­ces­si­tated by the high num­ber of dropouts at their school.

The high num­ber of the chil­dren taken care of by the DPM’s of­fice has seen gov­ern­ment con­cep­tu­alise a project to try and mit­i­gate the chal­lenge faced as an of­fice thus the role out of the project. Nom­phumelelo Dlamini from the DPM’s Of­fice ac­knowl­edged the need for such a project to be un­der­taken as the poverty sit­u­a­tion is hard hit­ting to the very OVC they are man­dated to take care of as a depart­ment. Dlamini ac­knowl­edges that the project is still at a pi­lot phase yet they have, are hard to grasp on how the coun­try will be able to roll out such a project as it is an ex­pen­sive ex­er­cise.

Dlamini in­formed the Ob­server on Sat­ur­day that “The project is a kind of as­sis­tance for the OVC to­wards school needs such as uni­form, shoes and other school ne­ces­si­ties. The project also pro­vide for the of health of the chil­dren. The
