ILLOVO, FLYERS AVOID EACH OTHER IN INGWENYAMA CUP DRAW
Ubombo Flyers have been drawn against Magwanyane FC in the quartefinal of the regional phase of Ingwenyama Cup Lubombo Super league, avoiding a derby fixture against rivals Illovo FC who face other neighbours CPL in what could be interesting fixtures for football lovers this coming weekend.
The draw of the tournament was conducted at the Lubombo Regional Football Association (LRFA) offices in Siteki on Tuesday evening. CK Survivors host City Warriors while Rail United have a date with new comers Manyovu Young Fighters in other fixtures. In their maiden Ingwenyama Cup appearance Young Fighters have reached the last eight at the expense of fellow rookies Kukhanyeni F.C whom they beat in the preliminary round to make their own history.
Flyers and CPL, who both qualified to play, in the main tournament last year are also on course to repeat the same feat should they overcome their opponents throughout the journey and it waits to be seen if their
opponents could easily afford to bite the dust at this stage. Team representatives who attended the draw were curios the moment Lubombo Eastern Zone Secretary Kwanele Nkomondze, who conducted the draw, picked up the first four hosting teams, thus confirming that Flyers, CPL, United and CK Survivors would not play each other. Tension engulfed the house when the home team opponents were picked hence the mixed reactions that followed thereafter brought the vibe usually associated with this mouth watering tournament.
The Ingwenyama Cup has brought a new dimension in local football as super league teams have to battle it out for championship at regional level and national level before joining the other 26 elite league teams in the main tournament.
The last eight games continues this weekend in Lubombo, with the semi final set for next weekend according to LRFA Chair-man Mangaliso Langwenya who emphasised that teams must keep on practising the good sportsmanship behaviour throughout the tournament.
