BLACK FRIDAY: Heavy storm hit several areas in the Manzini region yesterday on a day dubbed Black Friday. It was indeed a ‘Black Friday’ for the Matsapha Industrial area as there was an electricity outage. Roofs were blown away at Mobeni, electricity poles and cables were uprooted during the storm. SEC has appealed for patience as they try to restore power.

Swaziland Electricity Company Marketing and Communications Manager Sifiso Dhlamini said yesterday’s storm was the worst in years.

He confirmed that Matsapha Industrial Site was the worst hit, as the entire area is in the dark. Other areas that were severely hit were Manzini, Mahlanya, Malkerns, Bhunya, Mankayane and Dwaleni.

“What is worse about this storm is that it affected all our major lines, our sub-stations are in the dark and it will take us sometime to fix the problem.

We will try our best, but we will try to urgently attend the industrial area, which is our economic hub and then move onto the other parts.

“What compounds the problem is that it is our major lines that are down, it’s raining and roads are slippery.

We urge people to be careful of the lines that are down, because some maybe live.

We urge them to call us or the police,” Dhlamini appealed. He said they are not yet in a position to say when the situation will be sorted given the extent of the damage caused by the storm.
