Apupil from U-Tech High School, Siphelele Nxumalo did extremely well in the 2017 Matric Examination, coming out on top with Distinctions in all eight subjects.

Siphelele was at her school to collect her results when she learnt that she had been positioned first One in the country under the Matric syllabus. Her distinctions were in SiSwati, English, Mathematics, Life Orientation, Geography, Life Science, Physical Science and Tourism. The eloquent girl attributed her good results to hard work and dedication.

She disclosed that having goals and a clear working plan helped her to achieve the good results which she had worked for since the beginning of the year.

Siphelele said she had to sacrifice television soapies and focus on her school work as she was determined to do her best. Most importantly, Siphelele said she always took the lead in the learning process as she believed that teachers were only there to assist her in what she already knew. She would ask for clarity on topics which her peers had not even touched yet.

Ahead

“I have always been ahead of the syllabus such that by the time we start a new topic as a class, I already knew what it was all about,” she said. Siphelele said she also made good use of her cellphone as she used it to research on new topics.

“I understood that a cellphone can be used for profitable means instead of socialising with friends and end up losing focus on the school work,” Siphelele said. She further thanked her parents for supporting and allowing her to attend weekend classes wherein the pupils engaged in group work.

Meanwhile, the bright looking girl disclosed that she aspires to undertake Health Sciences at the University of Pretoria.

She said however, she would like to start with job shadowing this year, before enrolling for the course next year.

BEST OF THEM ALL: Siphelele Nxumalo of U-Tech High School.
