Platinum Stars and Cape Town City will battle in an ABSA Premiership clash at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in the evening today, with both teams eager to pick up from where they left off in 2017. Kick-off is at 8:15pm CAT. Dikwena ended last year on a high with a 1-0 win away to defending champions Bidvest Wits, propelling the North West club up and out of the relegation zone. The Rustenburg side have won two of their last three matches and put together a sequence of results which has brought just one defeat in eight, pushing them away from the foot of the table.

Stars have struggled, though, on home soil during the course of the ongoing campaign and have accumulated just five points from seven matches at their base. Their last home match was a 1-0 loss to Kaizer Chiefs in their penultimate match of last year.

City ended 2017 with back-toback 1-0 wins over AmaZulu (home) and Mamelodi Sundowns (away) on 15 and 19 December respectively. The six points pushed them up to second place on the log standings, and within touching distance of the Brazilians.

The Citizens have claimed 11 points from a possible 21 on the road this season, though their victories at defending champions Bidvest Wits and current leaders Downs demonstrates that they can beat any team on their travels - something that has not be synonymous with teams from the Mother City over the years.

In head-to-head stats, Stars and City have met in three league matches since the latter’s formation at the start of last season.
