‘Buffs’ to play SA’s Acorn Bush in friendly
SOCCER-In the quest to prepare for the CAF Confederation Cup clash against Cape Town City, Young Buffaloes will play a friendly match against South African third tier side Acorn Bush United. Making his remarks in a radio interview yesterday, Buffaloes Chief Executive Officer Sandile Gwebu said they have set up the friendly match with the Mpumalanga based outfit to familiarise themselves with the style of play in SA teams ahead of their clash against City. The match is likely to be played today at Kabokweni Stadium in Mpumalanga, the home ground for Acorn Bush.
Gwebu said they have been plagued by injuries for the better part of this season but all the players are back from injury except defender Samkeliso ‘Rio’ Lushaba who sustained a career ending injury during their league clash against Manzini Wanderers and the player will be out for the rest of the season and even beyond.
“Here at Young Buffaloes we pride ourselves with our development structure where we groom and harvest our young talent and we have already promoted a youngster from the development league to replace Lushaba at the back. We will also be taking about five players that we harvested from this structure to the CAF campaign. And it goes to show how helpful the development programme is,” he said.
The two sides are scheduled to meet in the continents second premier club competition in February with the local side set to play hosts to the Benni McCarthy led side on the 9th before visiting the Cape Town based outfit a week later.
