48 Malians drown try­ing to reach Europe

Flags flew at half-mast in Mali on Thurs­day as the gov­ern­ment an­nounced 48 of its cit­i­zens drowned in the Mediterranean on a sin­gle day over the week­end, all try­ing to reach Europe.
