Seniority rules courtroom use

Sunday Observer - - NEWS -

Lawyers are of the mind that seniority determines who uses courtrooms first.

According to a senior lawyer, they had noted that senior judges used their allocated court rooms ahead of those junior to them. He said this puts matters before the less senior judge on hold for hours while the first hears cases. “I don’t know how those who were sworn in at the same time work, but I have noted that those who have seniority have first preference to a court room,” he said. This was supported by another lawyer who said deference to a judge’s seniority was practised.
