VIOLENCE MARS MANZINI MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
…Tempers flare as kombis ferry unknown voters at Murray Camp …losing aspiring councillor collapses as votes counted
Tempers flared, accusations flew while the prospect of losing the elections knocked out cold an aspiring counsellor. This characterised the Manzini Municipal Elections contenders in Ward 5 at the Murray Camp polling station.
Aspiring councillors from the ward could not hold their tempers as they watched their votes being overtaken by one of their colleagues who was allegedly getting votes from people he had ferried with white mini buses. Worth noting is that these minibuses are not the ones servicing the route. At first they tried to register their complaints of the missing residents who had registered in the voter’s roll to the polling officers as such meant their dreams of being the next councillors were fading away.
The contestants then reported the unknown voters who were ferried by the minibuses. The polling officer is reported to have informed them that their powers were limited and suggested that they report the case to the police officers.
The kombi which caused friction at Ward 5 after it was noted ferrying voters who were not familiar to residents leading to violent clashes.
