The residents of the Matsapha-Mobeni Estate whose flats were flooded by the storm claimed their furniture was destroyed. A Nsibandze family at block 24 said all of their furniture was destroyed by the rains as all the rooms were flooded. The family of four said they slept at their neighbour’s flat after they were provided a flat where they were only allowed to put their wet furniture.

“We were told that we were not allowed to cook in the new house as the bill was still on the previous tenant,” the tenant said.

Meanwhile another family that was found vacating their flats estimated that about E40 000 worth of furniture was damaged by the water. The family was at block 28, and they said they were forced to drive at night to Ekudzeni as they had no other place to sleep. It was gathered that when it started raining only one family member was home.

“I didn’t know that the roof had been blown away until my neighbour came knocking to check on me.” she said.
