Mat­sapha start SBS Club Champs on a high note

TMat­sapha Ten­nis Club started the 2017 Swazi­land Build­ing So­ci­ety (SBS) Ten­nis Club Cham­pi­onships on a high note at the UNISWA Kwaluseni Courts yes­ter­day.

The club recorded vic­to­ries in both the men’s sin­gles and men’s dou­bles, beat­ing Lobamba Ten­nis Club by 7-4 and 7-2, re­spec­tively.

The two day an­nual com­pe­ti­tion, played un­der six cat­e­gories, namely ladies dou­bles and sin­gles, men’s dou­bles and sin­gles, vet­er­ans, and mixed dou­bles, is ex­pected to end this af­ter­noon.

Swazi­land Na­tional Ten­nis As­so­ci­a­tion (SNTA) Sec­re­tary Nqaba Mkhaliphi said they were happy with the per­for­mances of the clubs in the open­ing matches.

“We are ex­cited with the pro- ceed­ings of day one and we are hop­ing to see more ex­cit­ing ac­tion in day two.

There will be a prize pre­sen­ta­tion to­mor­row (to­day) where the win­ners will be awarded for their achieve­ments,” he said.

Mkhaliphi also stated that they would be tak­ing part in the 2018 Mozam­bique Open to be held from 10-17 De­cem­ber in Ma­puto.

“We are still try­ing to de­ter­mine whether we will send the team to the games or not as we have some chal­lenges.

Some in­di­vid­u­als have, how­ever, ex­pressed in­ter­est to at­tend the games and we will an­nounce other de­tails in due course,” he said.
