SOCCER – Lubombo based side Tambuti yesterday stunned hub giants Manzini Wanderers thrashing them 2- 0 at the Mavuso Sports Centre yesterday.
The Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe led side started the match on a high and looked ready for the kill as they welcomed back hard-working Nigerian born striker Kola Aladeon. The Nigerian forward didn’t disappoint as he created the first real chance of the match two minutes into the match. The maroon and white outfit were at it again 10 minutes later and this time came from the left through Sicelo ‘Junior’ Simelane who dribbled past two defenders before releasing a stinging shot that hit the side-net. Tambuti also proved to have a solid game-plan as they soaked in the pressure, before striking back with the counter-attack.
They should have opened the scoring through Captain Mpendulo Ngidi whose inch-perfect cross went past Banele Dlamini, who was manning the Weslians post.
Sifiso Matse should have done bet- ter in the 50th minute when Kola picked him front the left flank but he failed to control the ball, and the opposition defence cleared.
Sicelo ‘Junior’ Simelane also came agonisingly close in the 22nd minute when he played a quick one-two with Lwazi Shana Maziya, but his shot hit the bar. As Wanderers sent numbers forward, and dominated possession, they left space behind and Tambuti took advantage and scored the opener against the run of play through a header by Ngidi.
Sifiso Matse thought he had equalised in the hour mark when he found the back of the net but was ruled off-side, much to the infuriation of the throngs of Wanderers faithfuls.
Tambuti nailed the final nail in the coffin in the 67th minute through substitute Simphiwe Lushaba who finished with an easy tap in a Musa Kunene cross on the left flank.
