Swazis be­com­ing more bru­tal by the day

This year is only 44 days old but has al­ready claimed sev­eral lives in the most bru­tal man­ner imag­in­able. From shoot­ings, hang­ing and stab­bing, the mur­ders seem to be­lie the fact that Swazis are known as a peace­ful peo­ple and in­stead, show there is a sim­mer­ing anger which gets man­i­fested in the most grue­some way.

Even though the po­lice ser­vice was wary of pro­vid­ing ex­act stat­ics with Su­per­in­ten­dent Khu­lani Mamba deem­ing this ar­ti­cle as re­flect­ing the coun­try in a neg­a­tive light, what has been noted is that peo­ple of ev­ery age and so­cial de­mo­graphic are vic­tims to the wave of mur­ders hap­pen­ing in this coun­try.

Start­ing from De­cem­ber last year lead­ing to the fes­tive, th­ese are the cases which have been re­ported about and do not in­clude those which have not made it into the print me­dia.

3 De­cem­ber 2017 - A 38-year-old man from Mh­labuyad­uma, took a bul­let to the chest af­ter he was shot by his lover’s brother. The brother is said to have gunned down his sis­ter’s lover be­cause he did not ap­prove of their re­la­tion­ship.

4 De­cem­ber 2017 - A man in his 30s was hacked while at KaKhoza un­til he died af­ter be­ing found in a com­pro­mis­ing po­si­tion with some­body’s wife. The hus­band is said to have had sus­pi­cion that his wife was hav­ing an af­fair with the other man, he even­tu­ally found the two in­side the other man’s house af­ter he had been tipped off by some of his friends in the area.

13 De­cem­ber 2017- 19-year-old Lin­delwa Gama of Cor­po­ra­tion died a few days af­ter she was al­legedly stran­gled and stabbed by al­leged mug­gers. Even though she went to the hospi­tal, was treated and dis­charged, she was to die a few days later. No ar­rests have been made since po­lice failed to lo­cate the mur­derer, last week, a sim­i­lar stab­bing oc­curred nearby with the vic­tim es­cap­ing.

24 De­cem­ber 2017 - An el­derly woman in her late 60s from Sipho­fa­neni was at­tacked and raped while at her home on Christ­mas eve. The rapist is said to have en­tered the old woman’s house around 1 pm. A fight is said to have gone on for some time be­fore the rapist over­came the old woman and pro­ceeded to rape her. It is said she re­ported the mat­ter to the po­lice and came back home. On Wed­nes­day the 27th of De­cem­ber, the old woman was raped again and this time she did not sur­vive the at­tack.

29 De­cem­ber 2017 - Kwan­dokuhle Mkhonta a 23-year-old young man from Ma­phung­wane was found dead with his head, in­testines, pri­vate parts and other parts miss­ing when the fam­ily viewed his corpse at the mor­tu­ary. Kwan­dokuhle is said to have been await­ing his re­sults as he had just com­pleted school­ing at Mphun­dle High School. He was found ly­ing by the road­side at Ma­phung­wane.

30 De­cem­ber 2017- An el­derly woman from Lom­a­hasha was raped by an un­known man who broke into her house and later stran­gu­lated her to death.

1 Jan­u­ary 2018 -a civil ser­vant was killed af­ter he was hit on the head with a stone by two men, who made away with his pos­ses­sions, af­ter he was found parked in an ob­scure place within Manzini. This hap­pened a few hours into the new year.

6 Jan­u­ary 2018- Lady boxer Delisile Msibi was stabbed un­der un­clear cir­cum­stances by her boyfriend who vis­ited her flat at Man­gozeni.

14 Jan­u­ary 2018- Mba­bane Swal­lows boss, Swazi Mo­bile Chair­man and Pre­mier League of Swazi­land Chair­man Vic­tor Gamedze was gunned down at a petrol sta­tion in Ezul­wini af­ter he was shot twice on the head and neck.

15 Jan­u­ary 2018 - Nol­wazi Si­fundza of Ekut­simu­leni, near Luve, is to have been al­legedly dragged into a nearby bush where she was raped be­fore be­ing stran­gu­lated to death. Nol­wazi was a helper, look­ing af­ter her sis­ter’s chil­dren. The killer is said to have pro­ceeded to bury her body in a shal­low grave.

21 Jan­u­ary 2018 - A man from Mah­hina at Dlan­geni who was in the com­pany of his teenage brother and a friend was at­tacked and hacked to

death with an axe. Two men are said to have ap­peared from a for­est and killed with­out say­ing any­thing.

22 Jan­u­ary 2018 - Rev­erend Petrus Lindimpi Mtetwa death was found mur­dered and buried in a shal­low grave near the Mkhondvo River. He was al­legedly hanged, and his killer took his new ma­roon Mazda sedan.

28 Jan­u­ary 2018 - Former Swazi­land Posts and Telecom­mu­ni­ca­tions Cor­po­ra­tion (SPTC) Board Chair­man, Phanuel Vi­lakati was al­legedly bru­tally mur­dered by his farm worker Sibu­siso Sandile Malindzisa af­ter a dis­pute on wages.

29 Jan­u­ary 2018- A re­tired head teacher, Du­misani Mkhonta, al­legedly shot and killed his lover’s fa­ther, Bhekithemba Khany­ile af­ter an al­ter­ca­tion.

Mfana­si­bili Maphosa re­cently lost his life af­ter he was sus­pected to have stolen dagga from his peers while at Em­feni in Mapha­laleni some­time last week. Even though it hap­pened in 2015, Delisile Mkhulisi’s death will soon be re­played in court af­ter she was beaten to death by her hus­band Ma­landa Khu­malo who is said to have been an­gered by her fail­ure to pro­vide him with a cig­a­rette while at their home in Mahlangat­sha.
