Swazis becoming more brutal by the day
This year is only 44 days old but has already claimed several lives in the most brutal manner imaginable. From shootings, hanging and stabbing, the murders seem to belie the fact that Swazis are known as a peaceful people and instead, show there is a simmering anger which gets manifested in the most gruesome way.
Even though the police service was wary of providing exact statics with Superintendent Khulani Mamba deeming this article as reflecting the country in a negative light, what has been noted is that people of every age and social demographic are victims to the wave of murders happening in this country.
Starting from December last year leading to the festive, these are the cases which have been reported about and do not include those which have not made it into the print media.
3 December 2017 - A 38-year-old man from Mhlabuyaduma, took a bullet to the chest after he was shot by his lover’s brother. The brother is said to have gunned down his sister’s lover because he did not approve of their relationship.
4 December 2017 - A man in his 30s was hacked while at KaKhoza until he died after being found in a compromising position with somebody’s wife. The husband is said to have had suspicion that his wife was having an affair with the other man, he eventually found the two inside the other man’s house after he had been tipped off by some of his friends in the area.
13 December 2017- 19-year-old Lindelwa Gama of Corporation died a few days after she was allegedly strangled and stabbed by alleged muggers. Even though she went to the hospital, was treated and discharged, she was to die a few days later. No arrests have been made since police failed to locate the murderer, last week, a similar stabbing occurred nearby with the victim escaping.
24 December 2017 - An elderly woman in her late 60s from Siphofaneni was attacked and raped while at her home on Christmas eve. The rapist is said to have entered the old woman’s house around 1 pm. A fight is said to have gone on for some time before the rapist overcame the old woman and proceeded to rape her. It is said she reported the matter to the police and came back home. On Wednesday the 27th of December, the old woman was raped again and this time she did not survive the attack.
29 December 2017 - Kwandokuhle Mkhonta a 23-year-old young man from Maphungwane was found dead with his head, intestines, private parts and other parts missing when the family viewed his corpse at the mortuary. Kwandokuhle is said to have been awaiting his results as he had just completed schooling at Mphundle High School. He was found lying by the roadside at Maphungwane.
30 December 2017- An elderly woman from Lomahasha was raped by an unknown man who broke into her house and later strangulated her to death.
1 January 2018 -a civil servant was killed after he was hit on the head with a stone by two men, who made away with his possessions, after he was found parked in an obscure place within Manzini. This happened a few hours into the new year.
6 January 2018- Lady boxer Delisile Msibi was stabbed under unclear circumstances by her boyfriend who visited her flat at Mangozeni.
14 January 2018- Mbabane Swallows boss, Swazi Mobile Chairman and Premier League of Swaziland Chairman Victor Gamedze was gunned down at a petrol station in Ezulwini after he was shot twice on the head and neck.
15 January 2018 - Nolwazi Sifundza of Ekutsimuleni, near Luve, is to have been allegedly dragged into a nearby bush where she was raped before being strangulated to death. Nolwazi was a helper, looking after her sister’s children. The killer is said to have proceeded to bury her body in a shallow grave.
21 January 2018 - A man from Mahhina at Dlangeni who was in the company of his teenage brother and a friend was attacked and hacked to
death with an axe. Two men are said to have appeared from a forest and killed without saying anything.
22 January 2018 - Reverend Petrus Lindimpi Mtetwa death was found murdered and buried in a shallow grave near the Mkhondvo River. He was allegedly hanged, and his killer took his new maroon Mazda sedan.
28 January 2018 - Former Swaziland Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (SPTC) Board Chairman, Phanuel Vilakati was allegedly brutally murdered by his farm worker Sibusiso Sandile Malindzisa after a dispute on wages.
29 January 2018- A retired head teacher, Dumisani Mkhonta, allegedly shot and killed his lover’s father, Bhekithemba Khanyile after an altercation.
Mfanasibili Maphosa recently lost his life after he was suspected to have stolen dagga from his peers while at Emfeni in Maphalaleni sometime last week. Even though it happened in 2015, Delisile Mkhulisi’s death will soon be replayed in court after she was beaten to death by her husband Malanda Khumalo who is said to have been angered by her failure to provide him with a cigarette while at their home in Mahlangatsha.
