JOHANNESBURG - Baroka FC coach Kgoloko Thobejane has officially been suspended, the club confirmed.

It is alleged that Thobejane indulged in some firewater with the players in the bus to Polokwane following their 2-0 league defeat to Free State Stars at Goble Park Stadium last week.

The club CEO‚ Morgan Mammila, confirmed the news of Thobejane’s suspension to TimesLive, but said it had nothing to do with allegations of drinking as reported in the media.

“Yes it’s true. The coach has been suspended,” Mammila said.

“No t here’s no such thing[ allegations of drinking]. No‚ it’s not that. That’s just people speculating ,” he added.

Mammila said Thobejane’s suspension was an internal matter, but he didn’t going into details.

“No, it’s an internal matter, but surely it’s not the allegation of Free State Stars,” concluded the Baroka boss. Thobejane was asked to step aside some time last year by the club, and the team struggled in his absence. It remains to be seen if he will return to his post in the near future.

Bakgaga didn’t start 2018 on a good note as they are currently lying ninth on the log table with 26 points from 20 league games. In the five league games that they have played so far this year, Baroka lost to Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Free State Stars, and won just once against AmaZulu. Their match against Golden Arrows ended in a draw. Baroka will host Chippa United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane next weekend, but before then, they will travel to Rustenburg to face Platinum Stars in the Last 32 of the Nedbank Cup on February 14.
