...demands E450 000 from Mhlongo

In a committee meeting held on Friday, the council is said to have after satisfying themselves that their decision not to renew Gideon Mhlongo’s contract in May was ‘legal,’ decided that the CEO should stop working with immediate effect.

Adding salt to the injury, the council is said to have also demanded that the CEO should pay back the salary that he has been paid over the past three months, amounting to E450 000. The CEO reportedly earns about E150 000 a month. “He had been wrongfully paid the money because his contract had expired,” said a source close to the matter. The source also revealed that the council would soon be informing the new Housing Minister Prince Simelane that the decision by his predecessor Phiwayinkhosi Mabuza was wrong, hence he needed to rectify it.
