Thobile Makhoyane to headline ‘Awumbimbe Umjeka’
AWUMBIMBE UMJEKA is all about celebrating identity during National Flag Day.
The show will be on Saturday at SoFresh Lounge in Manzini.
What better way to celebrate this national event by roping in one of Swaziland’s best kept secrets and musical exports who will serenade the nation using some of our most ancient musical instruments as well as her golden voice?
The songstress said the instrument Makhoyane identifies her as a Swazi, and it is an instrument she can relate with so easily.
That said, she also added that this show was inspired by the idea of celebrating your roots, the indigenousness of every person.
“I want to bring back my solo career back to life, as you know I last performed in the country in 2010, in the BushFire festival. I have learnt more in Mozambique and want to implement all that I learnt here at home. The show is also about uplifting each other in the music industry, as you know that SoFresh has done so much to see arts grow in the country,” she added.
Thobile Makhoyane, who forms part of Spirit Indigenous, is back within local music circles as a solo artist.
Spirit Indigenous, formerly based in Mozambique, is now back in the country, taking a break from the Mozambican music industry.
The female artist revealed that her partner was currently involved with a group from South Africa, the Pan African Band.
To complete the experience, Thobile will be joined by a few of Swaziland’s premier poets as well as fellow musicians to give out something that can at best be called a night to remember.
These will be TheLastMan, Karabo Mhlala and Themba Mavuso (Magaba).
The nation is invited to experience the best of what Swaziland has to offer in terms of music, poetry cuisine and great company.
Gates open at 1900 hrs and the show starts at 2000 hours, damage is E40.
MUSICAL: Thobile Makhoyane.
